When you hear the phrase, “The one that got away,” what do you think of? Long lost lovers that you parted ways with yet contemplate now and then? A pet that’s gone that you still mourn for many years later? Or even a vacation you decided to pass on because you feared going away for too long? Turns out I’m not romantic.

I watched the new Kanye video/ Balmain ad and I liked it. It was not like so many other artist’s generic music videos. I was actually interested in it. I may be biased: thrilling visuals, diverse models in beautiful clothes walking in slow otion all set in black and white is so, so, so my jelly. Plus, Sia was featured.

I’ve been thinking about the role of attractiveness and it’s strong relationship to success. It’s been studied at Princeton and Purdue proving there is a strong link. As a society we too, believe that smarts can also equal success. That’s what our education system has built its foundation on. Put the two together and whammy! 

Every summer Hollywood hits us with their hottest blockbusters. Action, thrills, and big stars are thrust at us in hopes of capturing our hearts (and wallets). For the most part stars go out and do the media circuit: talk shows, meet and greets, and – of course – the red carpet movie premieres around the globe. Where there is a premiere there’s red carpet fashion. Now you’ve got my full attention.

I was at a corporate event last week to kick off Stampede. While enjoy the bull busting a friend of a friend shared with me that she thought that Stampede was such a fun time for the city. I totally agree. What’s better than sunshine, midway junk food, rides, livestock, and well fitting jeans? Not much. 

Have you ever heard the question, “Who do dress for?” For me it’s a no brainer; it’s me of course. Not many others choose to wear many of the items I love dearly. Some are silly. Some are un-feminine (whatever that means). Some are just questionable. That got me thinking. How many of my beloved items are glorious to me but hideous to others?

This past weekend I spent time catching up with old friends. I binged Netflix, cruised the Internet, and YouTube’d. Oh the joys of wifi. Outside of my home–centric activities it was a big weekend. There was mourning, celebrating, and for anyone still sleeping, we were asked to wake up. 

On my most recent trip to Las Vegas something stood out to me in a way I had never noticed before. This is a city that can be described as the best and the worst of western, specifically American, culture. Anything goes. It is the least judgmental place I’ve been. You can do almost anything here as long as you have the cash. To bring my point home, you’ve likely heard the city’s slogan, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”

Last week the 2016 Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Awards took over New York City. The CFDA recognizes excellence in multiple categories including accessories, creative vision, journalism, menswear, womenswear and lifetime achievement. The complete list of 2016 nominees and winners are here. The most popular award for mainstream culture is likely the Fashion Icon Award.

Ladies, Have you ever asked yourself, “I wish I was taken more seriously.” Or how about, “I wish I felt more confident?” If you have, please know first, you are not alone.  Second, you are capable and attractive. Third, that said, it may start with something simple and fixable AF.

This past weekend I attended PARKSHOW at Chinook Mall. The event, while still young, is getting to be a Calgary fashion scene staple. Hundreds gather to see what local designers are producing and showing on the runway (or maybe we gather because it’s something to do.) It would be easy for me to put on my critical hat and share all my thoughts on the show. I will resist the urge for two reasons: I’ve already done that and there’s more to talk about.

Summer is just around the corner. Many 20 and 30 something young things calendars are full of friends and family inviting them to be a part of them getting hitched. In most cases there is an engagement period in advance of the big day. With engagement comes jewelry. More specifically diamond rings. It’s big business.
