Every year the Recording Academy hosts the biggest party of the American music industry: the Grammys. The industry congregates to the city of lights to celebrate the best of the year. Well, some of the best. 

One of the many things I look forward to every New Year is the opportunity to reflect, to edit, and to watch the Hollywood attend fancy award shows draped in black tie fashion. Hey, all work and no play makes for a dull life. Yet, technically I am both working and playing when reflecting on celebrity fashion. A win win.

Oh what a whirlwind the Hollywood award season has been. The final flourish in the awards show calendar, as always, are the Academy Awards. This special night is reserved for the voter-deemed best of the year. Each nominee is wriggling in his/ her/their seats hoping to take home that golden Oscar. Lucky for us, fashion friends, a big part of the evening is what the stars rock on the red carpet.

Did Sunday night’s Emmy’s feel different to you? Me too. People wanted to watch – and not just the red carpet - but the actual awards show. This year had a tonne of former film folks taker their turn at TV. Dare I say TV is no longer considered the cutesy kid sister of film?

That sad, FOMO feeling of summer ending is creeping in. The mornings and evenings are brisker, there are less day light hours, and the VMAs happened over the weekend. Its official: summer is on the way out.

Every year, the CFDA Awards honours the best of brightest of the fashion industry. Outside of the awards for the designers, they highlight stand out people outside of the immediate fashion community. This year, 3 Board of Directors’ Tribute awards were given to Planned Parenthood’s Cecile Richards; the inimitable powerhouse Gloria Steinem; and musician and actor, Janelle Monáe.

The major awards shows of the season wrapped up on Sunday night in an astonishing fashion. We are all now aware of the Academy Awards Best Picture envelope mix-up that eventually got straightened out and granted to the Moonlight team. Phew. Drama aside, my favourite part of the night, of course, was what the stars wore.

I have devoted my life to the thought that if you prepare, work hard enough, and show up looking the part, the rest will fall into place. After Sunday night’s Grammys I am a bit shook up. Yet as I am learning more and more, I shouldn’t be.

The last few weeks I have been terrified to check my phone. Usually I love to check out what I’ve missed on Twitter, Instagram, and my favourite blogs since I last double tapped. You know, get a sense of the scoop. That’s no longer the case. I cringe as I await the barrage of terrible, horrific things happening from a state of fear and hate. It seems a bit ridiculous to go about our days – be it in fashion or otherwise – when the world is crashing down all around us. 

Ahhhh. It’s that time of year again. It’s awards season. The he Hollywood Foreign Press' annual Golden Globes are just one stop on the train to the inevitable mack daddy that is the Academy Awards. As host Jimmy Fallon announced Sunday night, the Golden Globes is the, “Biggest party of the year,” for Hollywood insiders. We all know that 2016 was hard. 

TV's biggest award night was this past Sunday. The Academy rewarded the crème del la crème at the annual Emmys. The anticipation, expectations, and disappointments for who will win run high. So does my style curiosity as I relish in seeing the looks on the red carpet.

This past weekend I spent time catching up with old friends. I binged Netflix, cruised the Internet, and YouTube’d. Oh the joys of wifi. Outside of my home–centric activities it was a big weekend. There was mourning, celebrating, and for anyone still sleeping, we were asked to wake up.
